More than $5,000 in cash prizes will be presented during an opening reception for the 36th annual Community-Sponsored Awards Exhibition at the Rowayton Arts Center. The reception from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, is free and open to the public.

The exhibition of high-quality art in all media will continue through April 26. The RAC Gallery at 145 Rowayton Avenue is open from 12:00-5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday (closed Monday). Admission is free. Jeffrey Price is owner of Artists’ Market in Norwalk will select the prize winners. Barbara Murphy, the exhibit chair, says, “We are honored that Jeffrey agreed to judge this year’s Community-Sponsored Awards Exhibit, which is one of RAC’s most important annual events. He is a well-known specialist in the art of Dutch printmaker M. C. Escher and has lectured on cultural history to audiences ranging from school children to scientists. He also has organized exhibits of photographs by Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, as well as Escher’s work.”

Founded in 1970, the Artists’ Market has been a respected part of the Connecticut art community for more than 40 years. Price’s own photographs have been honored with Kodak’s National Award for Experimental and Creative Photography and have been published and collected for more than 30 years. He currently is a member of the Norwalk Arts Commission. Price earned a degree in art history at the University of Connecticut.
