Artists in Rowayton spill into the streets in two ”plein air” events open to all painters who like to paint outdoors. “Paint Rowayton” is a competition over a two-week period (May 23- June 3). On Friday, June 3, they’ll submit their work for review. The judge is artist Elizabeth Agresta. The winning artwork will be hung in the Portside Gallery at the Rowayton Art Center – June 5-19. Prizes awarded: 1st- $150, 2nd- $75 and 3rd-$50- (Jerry’s Artarama Gift Certificate). Prizes awarded in 2 categories: (1) Oil/Acrylic and (2) Watercolor/Pastel.

“Paint Out” is a one-day event for speedy painters. At 9:30 am on Saturday, June 4, at the blare of the horn at the Firehouse, artists pick up their brushes and start painting. They have two hours to complete their paintings. At 11:30, artists will hear the second blast from the Firehouse to signal that time is up. Artists will then bring their paintings to sell that afternoon from 12-2pm at The Rowayton Arts Center in the village at 145 Rowayton Avenue. It’s a colorful day you don’t want to miss! Prizes also awarded: 1st- $150, 2nd- $75 and 3rd- $50 (Jerry’s Artarama Gift Certificate). There are 3 prizes awarded in the following mediums: Oil/Acrylic/Watercolor/Pastel. Children (Ages 6-11) from Rowayton Elementary School may participate at the Rowayton Community Center. The top four winners will be given ribbons and tokens for ice cream at Brendan’s 101.
