Judge: Paul Efstathiou
Paul Efstathiou is Director of Contemporary Art at Hollis Taggart in Chelsea, NYC and Southport, CT. His responsibilities include bringing new artists into the Hollis Taggart program, developing exhibitions of contemporary art and expanding the gallery’s art fair presence. Paul is a second generation art dealer and independent curator with almost 20 years experience.
The Hu Lindsay Memorial Award was established in 2016 for the top winner in the Mixed Media Category for RAC’s annual Abstraction exhibition. This cash prize of $250 honors the life of Hu Lindsay, an active exhibiting member for many years and RAC President from 2007 to 2013. Throughout his successful 50-year career as an award-winning graphic designer, Hu continued to create his own artwork. After his retirement, he concentrated on collages, mixed media artwork and paintings, many of which won awards at regional art venues.

Greg Shea is an award-winning artist and craftsman with diverse creative interests including drawing and painting, portraiture, illustration, photography, relief printmaking, sculpture, calligraphy and illumination, woodworking plus more. For over twenty years, Greg has worked at the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, CT, where he is the Senior Museum Preparator.

Spring 1 Classes Start Next Week
There are a wide variety of in studio, online and hybrid classes for adults of all levels in all mediums. (Seen here is the studio set up for RAC Instructor Lenny Moscowitz, who teaches a hybrid class “Abstraction with Lenny,” beginning March 9!) Review the entire schedule at rowaytonarts.org/classes.
Three youth classes are continuing in the studio, “Creations” for ages 6 to 9, “Creative Explorations for 7 to 10 year olds” and “ClayPlay@RAC.” For more info on these classes, visit rowaytonarts.org/youth-classes-and-workshops.

FREE Online Portrait Drawing Class

RAC Instructor John Grieco is offering a free class to anyone interested in learning more about the art of Portrait Drawing. John will demonstrate how to work from a chosen photograph (of Queen Elizabeth, at right) – sharing his approach to creating a portrait by working with a combination of mass and line.

Working with Pen & Ink

In this workshop, RAC Instructor Mari Gyorgyey will teach students how to use cross-hatching, stippling and pointillism to create darks and lights as well as every value in between. Open to artists of all levels.
