After decades with clay and other refractory materials, Derek now primarily works with glass, usually kilnformed soda lime glass – an artistically and technically demanding material. His work is often produced exploring the notion of flow, taking glass to a molasses like texture and directing its movement over several firings. Derek began his training as an artist at the Rowayton Arts Center where he participated in several classes throughout his younger years. He’s honored to be exhibiting where it all began and prefers to answer the question, “how long did that take to make?” with the amorphism  “a lifetime.”
