If you’re new to oil painting or feel you’ve never received adequate training in the fundamentals of traditional drawing and painting skills, this class is for you!

Have you ever wondered how an artist was able to capture a likeness so well or why your painting looked different in your head vs on the canvas? Mostly, it has to do with your prior experience learning foundational techniques in drawing and painting. We will be working on the following throughout the semester:

  • Drawing and rendering using the techniques of the European and Russian Ateliers
  • Color theory and mixing, including brushstrokes and blending techniques
  • Indirect painting using the techniques of the Flemish Masters. Also includes an introduction to materials
  • Independent projects

This class will be led with a follow-along demonstration by the instructor each week.   Appropriate for teens and adults.
