For everyone who wants to learn different techniques and approaches to realist drawing, this class is for you!

Felicia is offering a one time, 2 semester drawing course for the summer months. We will be learning techniques on how to achieve a more accurate drawing, shading techniques, and an exploration of methods. These will include the following: French Academic, Trois Crayon, Force Method, Russian Academic, and Italian Academic. Felicia will be demonstrating all the techniques throughout the two semesters, so the student can follow along.

We will have a LIVE MODEL for 1/2 of each semester.

Suggested Supply list

  • Pencils: 2H, HB, 2B, 6B (prefer Staedtler Lumograph)
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Tombow small round retractable eraser
  • General block eraser for mistakes
  • Charcoal: vine (soft and hard)
  • Sanding block (nail files work nicely)
  • White and (soft) black charcoal pencils
  • Conte sticks in white, dark brown, and sanguine
  • Good paper, both white and toned (gray or neutral color). Not too textured. I like Stonehenge by Legion, but it’s expensive. Toned gray by Strathmore also works.
  • Painters or artist tape
  • Box cutter for sharpening
  • Brush for blending
  • Paper stumps for blending

About the Instructor:

Felicia Feldman has Masters in Fine Arts (Painting) from the New York Academy of Art, a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts (Painting) from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and has completed a number of Independent studies with renowned artists  Odd Nerdrum, Steven Assael, Will Cotton, Rita Natarova, Noah Buchanan, Vincent Desiderio and Alan Feltus.   She has extensive teaching experience in the Fine Arts in painting, drawing and figuration.  Specializing in observational and realistic techniques: foundational studies, graphite, charcoal, oil, watercolor and acrylic.  Felicia comes to RAC as a new resident to Connecticut having just moved here from Long Island where she worked for years teaching at the Long Island Academy of Fine Art.
