Join us for a unique art experience that blends painting, mindfulness, and self-expression.  Discover a creative space where painting becomes a meditative, expressive practice, guided by intuition, emotion, and a sense of freedom through intuitive exploration.

You’ll be guided through the basics of abstract expressionism while learning to let go, trust your instincts, and express emotion through color, movement, and texture. No experience is necessary, just bring an open mind, a willingness to play, and the curiosity to see what unfolds on the canvas. All materials are provided for this workshop. You’ll create several unique works on paper and complete a canvas piece to take home and proudly display.

About the Instructor:

Melissa Benedek is a contemporary abstract artist based in Connecticut, originally from New York City.  Her work is a vibrant exploration of intuition, emotion, and the expressive power of color.  Each painting begins with a feeling, an instinctive pull toward certain tones and textures, that sets the foundation for a process that evolves organically.

Music plays an integral role in her studio, shaping the rhythm and energy of each piece. Whether through bold gestures or quiet, intricate details, the sound becomes part of the creative dialogue, guiding the flow and mood of the work.

Working primarily with acrylics on canvas, Melissa layers in materials such as graphite and oil pastels to build depth, movement, and complexity. Her richly textured compositions invite viewers into a sensory experience where color becomes a language of its own, emotive, unspoken, and deeply personal.

For Melissa, abstract art is a space of openness and discovery. Without fixed meaning, her work encourages personal interpretation, creating a silent exchange between the painting and the viewer. It’s in that shared moment of connection where the true magic of art comes alive.
