Instruction will be given on how to acquire and install an infrared filter on your smartphone. An iphone 6 or greater will work for this infrared technique. This process also works with the Android line of phones, however this course will be taught using the iphone as the artistic medium. The infrared filter can be easily attached and removed from your smartphone.

During this class you will learn how an Infrared camera captures photographs of landscapes, architecture, still life, nature and the human form.  Demonstrations will be given on how to capture photographs utilizing the filter as well as processing and editing the  photographs.

In addition to learning about infrared photography students will also learn how to mount macro and wide angle lenses to their cell phone. These lenses will greatly improve the quality of your photographs.

Students will have the opportunity to take photos of stunning seascapes, floral still lifes , and the natural surroundings of the Rowayton Art Center grounds. Come join us and enhance your artistic vision.

About the Instructor:

Susanne Brandt is an artist who is known for her fine art photography. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University as well as a masters degree in Art Education. Susanne is currently the head art teacher at Wilton High School where she has taught photography for many years. She also teaches various workshops focusing on unique printing and photographic  techniques.  Helping others explore new areas of photography remains her primary joy.  Susanne has been exhibiting her work in group and solo exhibitions in CT & NYC for over 30 years. Her alternative photographic processes include printing onto fine art paper, fabric, metal, canvas and glass. Many of the photographs
are then enhanced utilizing paints and artisanal inks. Susanne works primarily with an infrared converted SLR camera. She enjoys the medium because infrared photography has a dream-like surreal quality making the images glow with a shimmering aura. Her work seeks to capture a compelling moment in time found in cityscapes, street scenes and nature. Her goal is to create “visual meditations” in her images.
