Level: int-adv painters

May 9 - June 27, 2023

Tuesdays

6:30 - 9:30pm

8 weeks

Instructor: Frank Bruckmann

Instructor's website

Fee: $220

In this class, students will work independently in the studio while Frank’s on the road exploring the wilds of America.  But, he’s only an arms-length away, as he’ll be in contact with students via email and FaceTime for critiques and guidance.  Students will send images of their artwork to Frank and he’ll edit them using an app called Procreate to show students the directions their work can go.

As students work from their own reference material, Frank will help students learn to:

  • improve their drawing ability,
  • mix colors more intuitively,
  • understand color relationships (i.e. warm vs. cool)
  • use perspective, values and textures.

By using different means of paint application, students will attempt to give the impression that their paintings were painted from life.

Artists are welcome to use oils, acrylics and pastels. This class is for artists who feel comfortable working on their own with guidance from afar.

Suggested Supply List:

The easiest thing to buy is a pre-made paint box with paints and brushes included. You usually can buy a box of either oils or acrylics with an assortment of brushes, mediums and palette for about $100 through either Utrech or Artist Supply Warehouse. The boxes are made of wood and usually are around 16 x 20 inches and have a space for canvas boards and a palette.

About the Instructor:

Frank Bruckmann began his studies at the DuCret School of Art in New Jersey and continued with classes at the Art Students League in New York City.  In Paris, he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and spent nearly a decade in France and Spain, copying the masters in great museums and painting landscapes in the cities and countryside. Now a resident of New Haven, Bruckmann has found endless subject matter for landscapes in New England but periodically packs his easel and travels farther and wider in his VW. Frank’s work is held in a number of private and commercial collections throughout the US and abroad.  He has had a number of one man shows in New Haven and Monhegan Island.

A note about Covid compliance:  You can be assured that RAC is doing everything possible to keep its customers and staff safe from the Corona Virus.  Our studio is spacious and airy with excellent air circulation and plenty of room for people to stay safely distanced from one another.  Every student will have a table of their own on which to work and will have their own set of supplies.

As always, please do not come to the studio if you are feeling sick or have the following symptoms:  cough, fever, shortness of breath (other than the excitement of seeing us), sudden loss of smell or taste, chills, body aches, or sore throat.
