This 4 week Acrylic Painting course reviews what acrylic paint is and offers exploration into the foundations of acrylic painting. This course goes over setting up a palette, using painting tools, applying paint, determining and mixing colors, and steps to creating a finished image. The course encourages group discussion and offers one on one feedback.
Supply List:
Acrylic Paints: (ideally you’d like to have a warm and cool version of each of the primary colors)
- Cadmium Red hue (warm red)
- Alizarin Crimson (cool red)
- Cadmium Yellow hue (warm yellow)
- Primary Yellow (cool yellow)
- Ultra Marine (warm blue)
- Phthalo Blue green shade (cool blue)
- Titanium White
- Burnt Umber
- Yellow Ochre
- Optional: Bone Black or Carbon Black, Zinc White
Matte Medium (8oz or 16oz)
Retarder / Slow dry (4oz)
Brushes – Variety of brush sizes and heads
Palette (Palette paper 12×16 or larger, or reusable palette)
Palette Knife
Water cup (for rinsing brushes)
Paper towels
Canvas Board (9×12)
Ruler
Pencils, erasers
Optional: sketchbook for note taking
Studio Attire: Acrylic paint can stain clothing, please wear clothing you do not mind painting in or wear an apron. Additionally, please wear closed toed shoes.
About the Instructor
Evelyn Harvey is an artist and art instructor working with local organizations and art centers to bring creativity to the community. She was a Professor of Visual Art, teaching Drawing I, Painting I, Designer Fundamentals, Color Theory, and Art Appreciation at Palm Beach State College. She received her BFA in painting from Pratt institute and MFA in painting from Savannah College of Art & Design.
In her artwork, Evelyn utilizes painting, printmaking, and photography to create work that explores her local environment through the context of time, memory, history, and narrative.
