The RAC 5 – Judy Katz
Judy has been a RAC Exhibiting Member for 20 years and a RAC Board Member for ten years. She went to the Music and Art High School in New York City and graduated with the award in Advertising. Judy went on to Syracuse University School of Fine Arts with an Art Scholarship. In her career as a graphic designer, Judy worked as an Art Director and Advertising manager for women’s specialty stores creating their visual personalities. She then had her own business designing logos, shopping bags, windows and interiors. She has also written and illustrated four books. Judy has lived in Westport for 25 years.
What medium do you work in and why?
Water and clay, because they are fluid.
Who are a few of your favorite artists?
Georgia O’Keefe, Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, Katsushika Hokusai and Vincent Van Gogh
Describe your artwork in 5 words.
Instant, simple, fluid, accidents, white-space
What is your favorite tool you use to create?
My Twig!
What is the most challenging part of your creative process?
When an accident happens, I have to make it work and know when to stop.
