In this class, Dana will offer individual instruction tailored to the objectives and experiences of each student. Students may work from photographs, still-life or other reference materials. Dana will be painting alongside the students and will be on hand to offer critiques and guidance at the student’s request. This will be a relaxed class with much leeway to experiment. It is open to both oil and acrylic painters. Some painting experience is required.
Suggested Supply List:
I suggest bringing what you have to the first class and filling in after you see what I use. Anything that has a “star” (*) is not necessary.

- Titanium white
- Cadmium yellow med and light
- Cadmium Orange
- Alizarin Crimson Permanent or Vermillion or Quinacridone magenta
- Ultramarine blue
- Scheveningen blue light*/ Old Holland or Thalo Blue/ any brand
ACRYLIC: (Charvin, Golden, Liquitex, Basics)
- Titanium white
- Cadmium yellow light and medium
- Cadmium Orange
- Quinacrinone magenta
- Alizarine Crimson

- Phthalo blue/Thalo blue
- Golden Gloss medium or the new Golden OPEN medium
BRUSHES:
- 2 palette knives, Home Depot brushes (1/2 inch, 1 inch and 2 inch)
- Bristle brushes –Robert Simmons or similar
- Rounds and flats in nylon– DaVinci , Pro Arte, Rafael or similiar
- Flat or filbert bristle brushes #1,2,4,6,8, round nylon #3,8,10
- Round nylon sables: #8, #10 or short handle 1 inch, 1-1/2 inch and 2 inch
Plus, grey palette paper pad or white at Jerry’s, plastic pallet box, paper towels, containers for turp, sketch paper, plastic bags for garbage and pencils.
About the Instructor
Dana Goodfellow is an award-winning painter who works out of her Darien, CT studio. A third-generation artist, her works are based on strong compositions, values and color balance.
A self-described colorist, Goodfellow’s unique ability to blend and harmonize colors was perfected during an earlier decade-long career in the fashion industry in New York City. In the last 20 years she has won many awards for paintings, has been included in several juried and solo exhibitions throughout the Northeast. Her work can be found in private collections throughout the US and has been featured in several local publications. Goodfellow has taught a series of popular art classes at the Rowayton Art Center since 2010.
She is a member of the Oil Painter of America, American Impressionist Society, an artist member of the Salmangundi Art Club in New York City, one of the oldest art associations in the United States(members have included American Artists such as William Merritt Chase, Childe Hassam, George Innis and Don Demers). Goodfellow is represented by galleries in Connecticut, Michigan and New York. Goodfellow has a BA in Art and Art History from Marymount College.
A note about Covid compliance: You can be assured that RAC is doing everything possible to keep its customers and staff safe from the Corona Virus. Our studio is spacious and airy with excellent air circulation and plenty of room for people to stay safely distanced from one another. While our studio can easily accommodate up to 20 people, we are only allowing a maximum of 8 students and one teacher at a time. Every student will have a 5′-6′ foot table of their own on which to work and will have their own set of supplies.
Note that covid vaccinations are required in order to attend class in person and all students will be required to wear masks. Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance and exits to the studio and all shared spaces and equipment will be thoroughly disinfected before and after every class. As always, please do not come to the studio if you are feeling sick or have the following symptoms: cough, fever, shortness of breath (other than the excitement of seeing us), sudden loss of smell or taste, chills, body aches, or sore throat.
