Growing up in Louisville, Kentucky, Paul can recount early experiences with his parents’ Kodak instamatic cameras with easy load cartridges and flash cubes. It wasn’t long before he was experimenting with his own Polaroid camera. In High School he purchased his first 35mm camera, a Canon Ftb.
Primarily self-taught, Paul attended Emory University where he took photography courses and learned darkroom and printing techniques. Atlanta offered a variety of photo opportunities including street photography, architecture, concerts, and landscapes. In one of his earliest photo competitions, he won first place in an Atlanta Journal/Kodak weekly photo competition.
With a Master’s degree in Corporate Communications, Paul pursued professional opportunities that drew on his writing and editorial skills. As Director of Marketing Communications for Philips Medical Systems, and now with his own communications business, Paul has written, edited, and art directed newsletters and publications, directed photo and video shoots, handled media relations and overseen visual and print campaigns.
Paul’s photographs have appeared in juried shows and solo venues throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont, as well as New York and Oregon. A number of his pieces are also in private collections. Although still very enthusiastic about creating images with his 6×7 film camera, Paul has added a digital component to his photography. Paul is an exhibiting member at Rowayton Arts Center, a member of Carriage Barn Arts Center, Ridgefield Guild of Artists, Stamford Art Association, Mattatuck Museum, and the Greenwich Arts Council.
Paul lives in Newtown, Connecticut with his wife.
