People & Places (Zoom)
Working in a loose, playful manner we will paint and draw people in their surroundings, editing the composition to tell the story. Sometimes the figure will be the center of attention, other times the landscape or cityscape. We will work with a variety of materials but as long as you have some watercolor, pencils and charcoal you’re fine for this class. The supply list below is suggested but not required.
NOTE: This class will be taught online using Zoom. Students are expected to be well versed in the use of Zoom prior to the start of class. The classes area recorded and recordings are available for a month following each class.
Suggested Supplies: I recommend coming to the first class with supplies you already have. I will demo supplies that I like to work with, and you can decide if you want to add them to your supplies.
As for as the number of colored pencils, markers, crayons — around 4-6 of each is fine.
- Vine or willow charcoal sticks (I like the Coates Willow charcoal medium sticks)
- 6B pencils
- Kneaded eraser
- Gouache or Acrylics
- Glue stick or matte medium for gluing
- Scissors
- Inktense or watercolor pencils
- Markers in several colors: I like Posca markers and Winsor Newton watercolor markers
- Black permanent marker: I like the Pentel pocket brush this has a brush tip that you can vary your drawing line from thin to thick just like a paintbrush.
- Watercolor crayons (I recommend Caran d Arche watercolor crayons, but you can use kids’crayons instead)
- Watercolor Paint: If you have a palette and tubes of watercolor in any brand, use them. If you have pans, they’re fine also.
- Paper: 9×12” pad of Canson or Canson XL Mixed Media paper is ideal. Watercolor paper is good too, you want a heavier weight than drawing paper.
- Magazines for Collage: Fashion or interior design ones have the best photos
