A new show at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC), “Abstraction,” will be on view April 18 through May 15, 2021. This exhibition features over 90 pieces of artwork by approximately 50 RAC Exhibiting Members with a larger degree of independence from visual references.
Winners for the following categories were announced at the opening April 18: Amy Schott of Wilton for “Blues,” (Hu Lindsay Award), Best in Show: Daniel Wade Barrett of Redding for “Don’t Ask Me” (Painting), 1st Place: Elena McCoy of Rowayton for “exhale #6” (Painting), 2nd Place: Susan Lippman of Stamford for “Capri Summer” (Painting), 3rd Place: Pam Lindberg of Darien for “Bird’s Eye View” (Collage) and Honorable Mention: Joyce Grasso of Stamford for “Light Across Antibes” (Mixed Media).
RAC gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 pm to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm. The Chair for the exhibition is Mary Harold and the Co-chair is Holly Hawthorn. The judge Paul Efstathiou is Director of Contemporary Art at Hollis Taggart in Chelsea, NYC and Southport, CT.
The Hu Lindsay Memorial Award was established in 2016 for the top winner in the Mixed Media Category for RAC’s annual Abstraction exhibition. This cash prize of $250 honors the life of Hu Lindsay, an active exhibiting member for many years and RAC President from 2007 to 2013.
RAC celebrates the study, creation and appreciation of the arts through classes, exhibitions and events open to all in the community. For over 60 years, this nonprofit organization has been a cultural gem in Rowayton, CT. The gallery and art school overlook the scenic Five Mile River at 145 Rowayton Avenue with space for regional artists to exhibit their art and a classroom for workshops and classes at all levels offered to children and adults.
