A new show at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC), “Community Sponsored Awards,” is on view now through July 25, 2021. This exhibition features over 60 pieces of artwork by RAC Exhibiting Members representing their best work of the year. A special thank you to companies and individuals in the area who contributed to the cash awards: Pat Atkin, The Bait Shop, Classic Prep, Darien Rowayton Bank, Fairfield County Bank, The Gatt Group, House of Needlepoint, Ana and Steve Mernick, Barbara Murphy, RBC Capital Markets, Rowayton Fuel, SAILS American Grill and William Raveis Real Estate Darien/Rowayton.

Winners for the following categories were announced at the opening June 27 – Best in Show: Bruce Horan of Stamford for “Avenue” (Oils and Acrylics),1st Place: Erin Nazzaro of Redding for “A Timid Review” (Oils and Acrylics), 2nd Place: Wendy Moore of Pound Ridge for “The Future” (Oils and Acrylics), 3rd Place: Joel Flora of Rowayton for “The Hosta Hideout” (Oils and Acrylics), Honorable Mention: Kat Evans of Fairfield for “Afterglow III” (Oils and Acrylics), 1st Place: Amy Schott of Wilton for “Micro metropolis” (Watercolors, Prints, Pastels, Drawings and Mixed Media), 2nd Place: Gregg Welz of Norwalk for “Openings,” (Watercolors, Prints, Pastels, Drawings and Mixed Media), 3rd Place: Elena Abrahams of Old Greenwich for “Urban Sports,” (Watercolors, Prints, Pastels, Drawings and Mixed Media), Honorable Mention: Judy Orseck Katz of Westport for “Still Life” (Watercolors, Prints, Pastels, Drawings and Mixed Media), 1st Place: Richard Ventre of Norwalk for “Kat/Defiance 2” (Photography and Sculpture),  2nd Place: Barbara Murphy of Norwalk for “Follow to the Right” (Photography and Sculpture), 3rd Place: Barbara O’Shea of New Canaan for “Light from Above/St. Pauls” (Photography and Sculpture), Honorable Mention: Jay Wilson of Cos Cob for “Interstate 10, West Texas”(Photography and Sculpture).

 RAC gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 pm to 5 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm. The Chair for the exhibition is Heide Follin and the Co-chair is Yuko Ike. The judge Jahmane West’s career began in the form of graffiti or “Street Art” and has evolved into a wide spectrum of mediums – he works from his studio in Norwalk, CT as a teaching artist and curator.

RAC celebrates the study, creation and appreciation of the arts through classes, exhibitions and events open to all in the community. For over 60 years, this nonprofit organization has been a cultural gem in Rowayton, CT. The gallery and art school overlook the scenic Five Mile River at 145 Rowayton Avenue with space for regional artists to exhibit their art and a classroom for workshops and classes at all levels offered to children and adults.
