A new show at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC), “Community Sponsored Awards,” is now on view through June 11, 2023.  This exhibition features artwork by RAC Exhibiting Members representing their best work of the year, with cash awards thanks to individuals and merchants in the area. A special thank you to those who contributed to the Community Sponsored Awards 2023: African Portfolio, All Seasons Marine, Arden’s Rowayton,  The Bait Shop, Core Burn Pilates, Darien Rowayton Bank, E.R. Winners were announced by the judge Susan Hardesty, Curator and Art Advisor: Best in Show: Monica Sprei of Wilton for “Horse’s Head” (Sculpture), 1st Place: Michael Brennecke of Westport for “Nocturne” (Oil Painting), 2nd Place: Joel Flora of Rowayton for “Her Imaginary Friends” (Oil Painting), 3rd Place:  Ginny Rowan of Riverside for “Profiles in Courage” (Acrylic Painting), Honorable Mention: Susan Fehlinger of Bridgeport for “Spring Birches” (Oil Painting), 1st Place: Joyce Andersen of Wilton for “Long Day” (Color Photography) 2nd Place: Emily Kelting of Norwalk for “Dawn on, Inle Lake, Myanmar” (Color Photography) 3rd Place:  Jay Wilson of Cos Cob for “Carnival” (Color Photography), Honorable Mention: Marilyn Parker of Rowayton for “Jonathon Seagull” (Color Photography), 1st Place: Amy Schott of Wilton for “Intercontinental Tracking” (Mixed Media), 2nd Place: Barbara Shapiro of Scarsdale for “Thoughtful” (Pastel), 3rd Place:  Hanneke Goedkoop of Rowayton for “Home” (Watercolor), Honorable Mention: Karen Popp of Greenwich for “Summer in Provincetown” (Mixed Media).

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 5 pm plus Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm.

RAC celebrates the study, creation and appreciation of the arts through classes, exhibitions and events open to all in the community. For over 60 years, this nonprofit organization has been a cultural gem in Rowayton, CT. The gallery and art school overlook the scenic Five Mile River at 145 Rowayton Avenue with space for regional artists to exhibit their art and a classroom for workshops and classes at all levels offered to children and adults.
