Ruth creates collages from papers she prints in acrylic using a gel plate and other printmaking tools. Her creative outlet as a child was sewing and those skills of designing, cutting and assembling fabrics inform how she creates now. She enjoys combining the serendipity of the printmaking process with the detail work of making a collage.
Her compositions focus on the simple beauty of everyday life. Working in layers, she’s drawn to bold, often complementary colors, interesting textures and playful patterns. She aims to evoke a feeling of joy, connection and comfort – a sanctuary from the world outside.
