About Steve:
Steve Parton is a painter and educator who divides his time between Manhattan and his Westport, CT studio. A career as an illustrator and designer for books, films, television, and Broadway musicals has evolved into that of a painter. He is known for insightful portraits, and offers classes at his studio as at Silvermine School of Art, and the Westport School District. He was awarded an Art Students League of New York scholarship to study at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
Steve paints in oils in a traditional renaissance manner to give his subjects as much richness as possible. This is an indirect method, building up a monochrome grisaille underpainting over which he gradually adds color with both transparent glazes and full bodied color. This is a time consuming process. I enjoy the unique qualities it gives. It offers very delicate tonal variations impossible with other painting methods.
Numerous arts organizations have invited Steve to judge and jury their exhibits. His paintings are in private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
