New Writing Contest for All Ages
“Food for Thought” Writing Contest
NOW until July 1
The meals we consume – alone or with others, at home or far afield – do much more than just satisfy our appetites. They also provide a portal to some of our most deeply-felt personal experiences: memory, family, sense of place, culture. Like Proust’s madeleine, the flavors, aromas, and preparations of certain foods have a unique power to bring these associations to immediate and vivid life.
Is there a particular dish or ingredient, cooking tradition or dining ritual, that unlocks these doors for you? To that end, RAC is running a food-themed writing contest as part of a celebration of all things culinary. Winners will be awarded prizes, and their work will be shared during the upcoming exhibition  At the Table .
This writing contest is open to all ages . The judge, Sarah Gold (photo above), is an award-winning food and culture journalist and former Connecticut dining critic for The New York Times . Submission requirements: stories, essays, and poems of up to 1,000 words must be received by July 1 for consideration. Email writing@rowaytonarts.org or drop off at the gallery.

In Memoriam
Dan Long
It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of beloved RAC member Dan Long. It was only several months ago that Dan, along with friend and fellow member Michael Brennecke, expertly chaired and hung our Abstractionshow, the first in our newly renovated gallery space. Dan’s energy and sense of humor were infectious, and we adored the time he spent here in our midst. We are honored to have one of his intricate and delicately-colored ink drawings on our wall in the current Spring Juried Show. We will miss his talent, his friendship and his laughter.
