Thomas Del Spina, custom framing consultant, presents “Framing to Sell” on Wednesday, May 24 at 6:30 pm. He will demonstrate how to make informed framing and matting choices that will help artwork to sing instead of suffocate, and maybe even sell! 

Thomas Del Spina – Fine Frames is a two fold business, retail custom framing, and manufacturing for frame shops, galleries, and museums all around the country. The shop also produces Italian, Spanish, French, American, from 15 th century to present-day contemporary moldings. All frames are individually hand made. Thomas has been involved in framing for over 50 yrs.

Topics for discussion at the workshop (with samples for examples):
The difference between custom frames and chop moldings.
Selecting the correct profile shape and why it matters.
Finishing – Natural woods, Lacquers, Gilding, Antiquing.
Materials – Glazing, Mats, Backing, Spacers
Fitting – Getting the art in the frame, Hinging, Floats vs mats, Canvases, setting up for hanging
Hanging framed art – Wired, D-Rings, Cleat
