RAC is excited to announce that award-winning European artist Jacobina (Trump) Oele will be visiting RAC this summer to teach an in depth class on Figure Drawing. In the workshop students will learn about the principles of drawing (i.e. line, shape, value, shading, texture, scale, perspective, and proportion) as well as techniques that will help them hone their observational and drawing skills.
On Saturday, Jacobina will give a lecture on the role of figure drawing throughout history, the importance of it today, and how students can advance their own practice. There will be a demonstration on how to create mood in your drawings with the use of various techniques. After lunch, we’ll set up at our easels and will work independently from a live model.
On Sunday, students will be drawing from a live model all day. We’ll start with gesture drawings of two minutes as a warm-up, go to ten minute poses and then into the longer ones. By the end of the weekend, students will have a few finished studies, but most of all they’ll have learned how to approach life drawing with skill, confidence and useful tools that will add joy and ease to your future work. This class is appropriate for both experienced life drawing students as well as those new to the process. Everyone will leave this workshop with a clearer sense of how to best approach drawing from life.

ABOUT JACOBINA OELE TRUMP:
For years I was a professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the Hague, the Netherlands where I also received my education. Currently I reside in Sarasota, Florida where I draw, paint, teach, coach and lecture on the subjects and topics I love.
Testimonials:
When I took figure drawing classes from the Ringling school for Art and Design, Jacobina was my patient teacher. I had a desire to tap into the vast knowledge she showed me and when she offered the coaching I didn’t hesitate. We both committed to three months of drawing. I thought there was not much else to learn after three months, but boy, was I wrong. We have been working for almost a year and it feels like I never want to stop discovering various drawing techniques. Kathy
I’m a marine biologist who spends time at the intersection of science and policy. I didn’t think I could draw or be creative. On a whim, I signed up for Jacobina’s class and learned so much about myself and the creative process. Her instruction helped me reconnect and awaken my right brain in ways I knew existed, but had no idea how to access. Her classes are paced perfectly. As a super busy person, I didn’t think I’d have time, but I did. As a non-artist, I was afraid of being judged, but I was supported and valued. I learned that the beauty in art is having no judgement, there is a flow, and a sense of just being. I signed up to learn how to draw, but I ended up learning how to be kind to myself, how to connect to hidden parts of my brain, and how to find simple joy with a pencil and paper.
