This workshop is an introduction to the encaustic art medium, and will be fun and engaging for all levels of artistic skill. You’ll learn various encaustic techniques using a hot iron and wax,  and will have the opportunity to explore painting on multiple surfaces. Bring your curiosity to explore art and have a restorative creative experience.  All the tools and supplies will be provided.

Note:  Encaustic is a method of painting with wax.  The pure beeswax is mixed with resin and pigments.  Each layer of wax is melted and fused with heat to the substrate.  Carolyn will teach you how to this hot wax painting technique to create sublime and beautiful works of art.

Suggested Supply List:  all art supplies will be provided by RAC.  We suggest you bring an apron or smock to protect your clothing.

Carolyn Childs’ paintings exude a captivating sense of calm and mindfulness, offering viewers a serene escape into her world.  Carolyn’s work often explores themes of tranquility, nature, and introspection, creating an emotional connection with her audience.  Her art invites contemplation and reflection, making it stand out in the contemporary art landscape.

In recognition of her talent and unique perspective, Carolyn Childs’ work has been prominently featured in renowned art spaces and galleries.  She was featured in our local; The Darien Times, Geary Gallery, UCBC, and Everything is Rosey.  She has upcoming shows at 5AM Art Studio in Norwalk, and Monster Art Studio in Norwalk.  Additionally, she has two solo shows booked locally in Stamford and New Canaan for 2025.

Carolyn Childs is a Connecticut native and Darien mom.  She is a certified K-12 art teacher, has a BFA in Creative Arts Therapy, and an MA in Art Education Leadership, with a focus on mindfulness and art.
