Instructor: Rebecca Dunn

Fee: $65 (includes all supplies)

Class Description:

This beginners Encaustic Photography Workshop is a great introduction if you have never worked with encaustic wax before or if you’ve worked with wax but haven’t tried incorporating photos into your work.

During Rebecca Dunn’s, 2 hour, hands on workshop, each participant will make an 8×10” Birch Tree piece that you will be able to take home with you at the end of class.  The workshop will focus on prepping your photos properly, layering the wax on, adding color, and other techniques for making texture. We will address heating, fusing, and manipulating wax, as well as where to find materials.

All supplies will be provided but please bring any personal photos or small artwork you may want to experiment with.

About the Instructor:

Rebecca Dunn has been practicing Encaustics for 9 years, during that time she has become fascinated with hot wax and how many different mediums can be incorporated to this unique medium.  Over time, she developed her own distinctive style that merges photography with encaustic wax, creating textured, ethereal worlds that invite viewers to slow down and examine the details. Prior to encaustics, her creative journey began at a young age and has spanned a wide variety of mediums—from cement sculptures and watercolors to duct tape, oil paints, to refinishing furniture. In 2012, she studied classical oil painting techniques under renowned painter Phyllis Shafer, which helped shape her approach to art.
