This workshop is designed to broaden the artistic skills of children age 8-12yrs. Each class will involve a bit of theory from the Instructor, with the majority of the class devoted to experimenting and doing. This workshop will have an emphasis on the creation of caricatures and cartoons. A variety of art techniques will be used to amplify the creations. Students can expect to work with a variety of materials and techniques (including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and 3-d construction).
Specifically, we’ll discuss the fundamentals of caricature, focusing on the art of keen observation. We’ll explore how different emotions and body gestures influence facial expressions and posture, making a caricature come to life. Together, we’ll study the work of famous caricature artists and compare how each one captures their subjects in unique ways, highlighting both similarities and differences in their approach.
