The Rowayton Arts Center is pleased to offer a free demonstration on the use of cold wax medium with oil paints. Interest in this medium has grown within our arts community, and we are fortunate to have an experienced instructor to share techniques and insights into the process.

Lori Lohstoeter, a Connecticut artist who uses cold wax as her primary art form, will lead the demo. Lori is an accomplished instructor and will present the fundamentals she uses in her own studio practice. The demo will include:

  • Tools and substrates
  • Studio setup
  • Timing your steps
  • The “why” and “how” of cold wax
  • An opportunity for questions and discussion

A note from Lori:  “Isolated during the pandemic, I devoted time to focus on a medium that had intrigued me for a while. I had admired works in galleries that appeared luminous, full of surface tension and texture. I began researching, signed up for a series of online lessons, and got absolutely hooked on cold wax. The medium—beeswax mixed with oil pigments—suited my curiosity perfectly. I remain devoted to the process and am pleased to share my insights with friends at the Rowayton Arts Center.” – Lori
