earn how to draw what you see accurately. This 8 week course will introduce you to the principles of drawing from observation. The course will begin with basic exercises that help develop eye/hand coordination followed by activities designed to enhance a student’s observational skills. Students will follow instructor-led exercises focusing on line, shape, form and space. No experience necessary.
Materials List – For the first session, all you will need is a 16×20 sketch pad, a soft pencil and a kneaded eraser.
Additional materials required include a soft charcoal pencil, soft vine (or willow) charcoal, white conte stick and two sheets of middle grey (Canson or Strathmore) charcoal or pastel paper.
About Steve DiGiovanni:
Steven DiGiovanni is a professional artist and instructor who lives and works in New Haven, Connecticut. He has exhibited throughout the region and is included in numerous private collections as well as the New Britain Museum of American Art.
He has completed portraits for the Yale University department of political science, the Yale school of medicine and other private and professional clients. His work and exhibitions have been reviewed in many publications including the New York Times and Art New England.
Steve just stepped down as the head of the Drawing and Painting Department for the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, and is an adjunct professor at Norwalk Community College in Norwalk, CT.
