Watercolor en Plein Air

The Spring is an ideal time for painting outdoors and no better way to enjoy it than in a class setting among other plein air enthusiasts under the guidance of a master teacher.  Each week, students will meet in a designated location within a 15 mile radius of the Arts Center.  Expect to be painting by the seaside, in parks and in student’s gardens.  Each spot will be a wonder in itself offering numerous vantage points from which to draw inspiration.  Christy will be on hand to help with composition, color mixing, and technique; and will focus intently on the colors of Fall.  There will also be much information shared about well-known plein air artists, their processes and their artwork.

In the event of inclement weather, the class will meet online via Zoom where students will be encouraged to use their own home and garden as inspiration.

Christy will start the class at 10am and will take the first 30-40 minutes of each class to compare two different artists from history to give students inspiration on how to approach the day’s lesson in a fresh new way.  Students will then be set free to work on their own. The class will reconvene again at 3:00pm to discuss the work done during the interim.

The lessons taught each day should be thought of as weekly lessons, and Christy suggests you work on the concepts throughout the week.  You will have the ability to share work done each week in the following class.

This class is most appropriate for Intermediate and Advanced watercolor artists.

Note: this class will be taught outdoors on location when weather permits.  Otherwise the class will be taught online using Zoom.  Please download and become familiar with the app prior to the start of class.
