Have you ever worked on a painting that never seems quite right or fully satisfying to you?  You look and you look, but you just can’t figure out what it needs to transform it into a painting you love?  Well, Anda Styler can help you figure it out.  With her discerning eye, extensive knowledge, and knack for seeing what’s off balance, Anda will work with you to show you how relatively simple changes can bring your work to life.

A few days before class begins,  students will be asked to send a jpeg image of a work of art they’re unsatisfied with to Anda for her observation.  Anda will print out the image and take a few days to think about it before class begins.  On class day, she’ll work with one piece of artwork at a time to show students how the piece can be transformed.  She’ll do this by painting directly over the artwork using a clear sheet of acetate so that the original artwork is never altered.  Students will watch as Anda paints and explains why her corrections bring the original painting into balance.  Each student will have their artwork transformed during class time and will receive a copy of the corrected work sent back to them via email.  The student will then have the ability to use the corrected work as a guide to help them bring their original work of art to the next level.  Students will be welcome to send updates to Anda for any further suggestions.

This is a class about creative problem solving and will be limited to seven students so that each work of art can be fully discussed. Students will benefit from watching the transformation of everyone’s work —  not just their own– as the strategies discussed will be universal in nature and helpful to all.  The goal of this class is get students to think more broadly about their work and to help them expand creatively.

NOTE:  This class will be taught online using Zoom.  Students are expected to be well versed in the use of Zoom prior to the start of class.

SAMPLE BEFORE AND AFTER PAINTING

To the left is an example of one of Anda’s own paintings that she was unsettled with. It was like having two paintings that did not fit together – the landscape did not fit with the light of the sky..etc…..

This is AFTER ……SO – I saved the sky – and re-invented the landscape to fit – I found that the water would be the best to reflect the sky and add dimension and depth to the composition….I used the overlay of acetate to do this and then followed what I had done.
