This is a wonderful class for people new to painting or for those who could use a refresher in the fundamentals.  Expect to start with black & white value studies of a still life and a landscape and progress to color from there. Students will learn about the grayscale, color mixing, composition as well as the basics on how to set up a palette and what brushes to use.

Special attention devoted to “Power of Observation” and “Select Focus” and how to use these principles in painting.

Supply List:

  • A tube of black and white Acrylic paints
  • coffee can for water
  • Brushes: Filbert- Bristle #9,#6 & #2
  • Canvas Pad- 12 x 16
  • Palette: White Enamel Tray
  • A list of supplies will be provided on the first day of class.

Note: This class will be meeting in the studio. Class size will be limited to eight students and it is required that all participants be vaccinated. 

About Joseph Fama:

Joseph Fama studied at the School of Visual Arts and the Reilly League of Artists. Cesare Borgia was his teacher. Joseph earned his bachelor’s degree from Iona College. He’s a member of the American Artist Professional League, Oil Painters of America and American Impressionist Society, Inc.  His work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and has won numerous awards.
Also, Joseph served as an Art Director for several advertising agencies in New York City. He worked with clients and copywriters in developing concepts and visual images for ads and T.V. commercials, and now spends his time painting and teaching art in various locations throughout Fairfield County.

A note about Covid compliance:  You can be assured that RAC is doing everything possible to keep its customers and staff safe from the Corona Virus.  Our studio is spacious and airy with excellent air circulation and plenty of room for people to stay safely distanced from one another.  While our studio can easily accommodate up to 20 people, we are only allowing a maximum of 9 students and one teacher at a time.   Every student will have a 5′-6′ foot table of their own on which to work and will have their own set of supplies.

Students and teachers will have their temperature taken before entry into the classroom.  All students are required to be vaccinated and must wear masks. Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance and exits to the studio and all shared spaces and equipment will be thoroughly disinfected before and after every class.   As always, please do not come to the studio if you are feeling sick or have the following symptoms:  cough, fever, shortness of breath (other than the excitement of seeing us), sudden loss of smell or taste, chills, body aches, or sore throat.
