Introduction to Abstract Art with Rachel Volpone
“Abstraction allows man to see with his mind what he cannot see physically with his eyes”- Arshile Gorky
This introduction to abstract art focuses on using water-based/acrylic paint and materials in traditional and non-traditional ways. Students will jumpstart their work in a fun, non-intimidating manner. Building a visual vocabulary through explorations of line, shape, color and mark making will be emphasized. Inspiration and confidence gained from these opening exercises provide the framework to start to communicate using an authentic and unique voice. The class will look to historic and contemporary abstract artists and their studio practices for further insight into this art form.
