Fee: $150

This course is designed to allow each student to explore drawing and watermedia alone or combined, focusing on loose adaptations of a given scene or subject.  Students are encouraged to bring their own photographic references (and objects, if they wish to draw observationally in that manner), or they may work abstractly, through intuitive processes. The intention is to focus on the action, rather than the finished product, therefore offering a sense of freedom in the process.  Previous experience with your medium of choice is suggested.

Supplies will vary according to each student’s desire. Here are some possibilities:

  • 140 lb. watercolor paper in hot or cold press, depending on your preference
  • Any preferred substrate (if you don’t want to work on w/c paper, but say you prefer Aquaboard or something else, that is fine)
  • 4h pencil plus any other pencils you may wish to use
  • White Staedler eraser
  • Colored pencils
  • Watercolor pencils
  • Watercolor with glass water jar
  • Watercolor brushes (1” Hake brush, #6 round sable, ½” angle brush, flat brush of your choice)
  • Gouache
  • C’aran D’Arche or other brand watercolor crayons
  • Bounty paper towels
  • Mixing palette of your choice – Daisy palettes are great, but if you plan to work large, bring a palette with a large mixing area!
