This class is designed with the beginner in mind. You’ll learn how to cast on stitches to your knitting needles, how to knit the garter stitch pattern, and how to hold your yarn for correct tension throughout your project. You’ll also get to choose whether you’d like to knit English or Continental style—simply put, holding the working yarn in your right hand or your left. Continental – hold in left hand, English, hold in right hand.
We will discuss what to do if a stitch gets dropped or if you accidentally knit two stitches together. These are all easy fixes. I know you are going to do fine, but just in case you have any worries about those types of things, don’t worry about them. I have made the same mistakes many times, so I know exactly what to do to correct them.
For this class, we’ll be making a simple scarf—about 8” wide by 60” long—using just the knit stitch throughout. It’s the perfect first project: no stitch counting, no tricky patterns, just one simple stitch from start to finish that will give you a wonderfully textured scarf that is cozy and warm.
We’ll be using Berroco Comfort Chunky yarn, which is soft, affordable, and easy to work with. It is a nice brand of yarn, one of my favorites. It is soft and comes in so many beautiful colors. One of the great things about this yarn is that it is washable, which makes taking care of your scarf so easy.
I’m looking forward to meeting you and helping you knit your scarf. See you in October!! Be aware that the class format will be flexible and I’ll be on hand to teach the purl stitch and how to read a stitch pattern should the interest arise.
This class will be held in the RAC’s gallery where we’ll be surrounded by gorgeous artwork and views of the Five Mile River.
Suggested Supplies:
RAC will supply everything you need to create an 8″x 60″ scarf. We’ll be using be using 2 skeins of Berroco Comfort Chunky yarn and a pair of size 10 knitting needles.
