Watermedia and Collage (Zoom)
We’ll be using whatever water media you have (ideally some watercolors and an opaque paint like gouache, acryla-gouache or acrylics) and collage to explore a variety of subject matter. Photos will be used for inspiration and a jumping off point in creating new work that is fresh and playful. Open to all levels; some drawing experience is helpful but not required. Group and individual instruction is given throughout class.
NOTE: This class will be taught online using Zoom. Students are expected to be well versed in the use of Zoom prior to the start of class. These sessions will be recorded and available to students for 8 weeks.
Suggested Supplies: I recommend coming to class with what you have (as long as you have one type of paint, a few pencils and markers, and paper that is at least 90 lb weight. Then you can decide if you want to add anything after first class. Here’s the list of materials I frequently use:
Drawing materials:
- 6B pencils
- Inktense or watercolor pencils
- Watercolor crayons (I recommend Caran d Arche watercolor crayons, but you can use kids’ crayons instead)
- Markers in several colors: I like Posca markers and Winsor Newton watercolor markers
- Black permanent marker: I like Pentel pocket brush
- Kneaded eraser
Paint: watercolors, gouache, acryla gouache, and acrylics are all options (if you only plan to use watercolor you will also need a tube of white gouache)
Paper: we will be working 9”x12” or less, as long as paper is between 90 -140 lb its fine. Best buy if you don’t have anything is Canson XL Mixed Media spiral pad.
Watercolor brushes: You will need one good quality synthetic sable, Round Medium brush size #12. Princeton Neptune is a good inexpensive brand.
Bristle brushes: flats 1/2” and 1” for acrylics and gluing with matte medium (or something close)
Glue: highly recommend Acrylic matte medium and glue sticks
Collage materials: Several fashion or design magazines, old books, papers you may have collected, old paintings you like parts of, etc.
Other supplies: 2 Cups for water, tape, paper towels, small spray bottle,
