This two-part workshop, “Photo Management for Fine Artists,”  takes place on two consecutive Wednesdays, May 22 and May 29 (6:00-8:30pm).  The workshop will be led by Paul Einarsen, professional photo manager and digital expert. He will demonstrate how to photograph, edit and submit artwork online for bios, contests and galleries to better position artists as professionals.

Please note this is a two part course for fine artists to learn how to photograph their artwork – not a course for photographers!   CLICK FOR MORE INFO

The Workshop is made possible by a grant from the Rowayton Civic Association. Preregistration is required (max attendance is 30 for each in person session).

This two-part course is designed for fine artists who want to learn how to use their iPhone to take, edit, and manage photos of their artwork for submission to juried art shows and galleries. The classes will emphasize simple techniques using the iPhone camera, Photos App and built-in file management to create a capture-to-submission workflow for the artist.

Part One of the course on Wednesday, May 22 will focus on iPhone setup and capture of the artist’s work. Participants will learn about the various features and settings of the iPhone camera, including focus, exposure and white balance. (Please bring in a small piece, 8×10 or smaller, for practice.) The class will demonstrate an example of iPhone setup, lighting techniques and positioning art for the best result. There will be opportunities for hands-on practice so that participants can learn how to capture quality images of their artwork using their iPhone.

Part Two of the course on Wednesday, May 29 will examine the submission process and preparing the photo to fit the submission file requirements. Artists will learn how to change file format, image size and dimensions, as well as customize the title. Participants will learn how to use the Photos App to edit their images, including cropping, adjusting brightness and contrast, and editing color. The class will also cover how to use third-party apps to further prep their images for entry.

By the end of the course, participants will have the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver professional-looking submissions that conform to show specifications and complement the artist’s work. They will also have a better understanding of the art show submission process and how to effectively showcase their work to potential buyers and collectors using their iPhone. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this course will provide you with the tools and techniques you need to get your work showcased for potential buyers and collectors.

Paul Einarsen studied photography at the University of Washington and worked for several years as a freelance photographer. His work led him to a career as a color separator, providing color conversion services to the catalog industry for such companies as Victoria’s Secret, Brooks Brothers, and Coach. In 1990, he was a team leader to scan and create a digital library of the Guggenheim Museum’s most important artworks. And later, as digital photography overtook the scanning industry, Paul was a senior sales rep at one of the largest digital studios in New York. Paul remained an avid photographer and desktop publisher and, as the iPhone brought more and more people into photography for the first time, he launched Bluewater Imaging to create a resource that supported the new ways photography was being used and help manage the trillions of photos being made every year. Paul is a Certified Professional Photo Manager and now works with clients as far away as Australia to help them manage their photos every day.
